Art Diffusion collection offers a unique approach to interior design with its extensive selection of over 150 sculpted and carved panel patterns. This line of architectural panels introduces an artistic element to any space, moving beyond the traditional flat wall panel concept to embrace dynamic textures and patterns. The panels create visual interest through elements such as waves, ornamental textures, and modular repeating designs, making them ideal for those looking to elevate the aesthetics of their environment with an innovative, eye-catching solution.
The Art Diffusion line is distinguished not just by its visual appeal but also by the variety of core material options available, allowing for customization based on project requirements and environmental considerations. The primary core used is the Interlam® Designed Fiberboard (IDF). This material is known for its exceptional quality, achieved through a meticulous refining process that results in a uniform density profile. This ensures a consistent appearance across the entire surface, making it perfect for deep, intricate carvings. The IDF core sets the standard for all other core options in the Art Diffusion line, providing a smooth finish that enhances the panel’s aesthetic appeal.

For those concerned with environmental impact and indoor air quality, Interlam offers a No Added Formaldehyde (NAF) core option. These panels meet stringent environmental standards and are compliant with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations. They are ideal for projects aiming to achieve LEED certification, particularly under the Low-Emitting Materials credit for green building projects. This makes the NAF option a perfect choice for eco-conscious designers and architects who prioritize sustainability without compromising on style.
In addition to these, the collection includes a Moisture Resistant MDF core. This is particularly suited for interior applications where humidity levels are high, or there is a risk of accidental moisture exposure. Although the finish may be more textured and open-celled compared to the IDF core, it provides reliable performance in environments where durability is key. An exterior alternative, EXTIRA®, is available for special applications, though it requires custom sizing and finishing.

One of the standout features of the Art Diffusion collection is the innovative Forescolor core, an engineered wood product that is dyed at the fiber level using organic dyes. This process results in a vibrant, through-colored material available in nine colors and two thicknesses. The panels made from Forescolor are manufactured using recycled forest products, making them an environmentally friendly option. The variation in color and fiber adds a unique character to each panel, providing a natural aesthetic that cannot be replicated with surface coatings alone.
For projects that require specific certifications or unique applications, the Art Diffusion line also includes FSC® certified cores, ensuring responsible sourcing of wood materials. Non-wood cores like Celtec and Acrylic are available for specialty radius applications or more design-oriented motifs, expanding the versatility of the collection.

When considering color consistency, it’s important to note that variations are a natural part of the product’s character, especially when using raw, unfinished panels. These variations occur due to the diverse sources of the recycled materials used in the manufacturing process. This characteristic can add a rustic charm to installations but should be considered during the specification phase to ensure it aligns with the desired design outcome.
Selecting the right finish is the final step in customizing an Art Diffusion panel. Interlam offers a range of finishing options to suit different project needs. For those who prefer to handle finishing on-site, factory sanding and priming is available. This process involves hand-sanding every square inch of the panel, including edges, to ensure an even surface ready for paint application. Specialty finishes, such as metallic or antiqued paint, provide additional options for achieving a bespoke look.
Alternatively, a non-gloss or high-gloss foil finish can be applied, where a membrane film is pressed onto the panels, offering a protective layer and an array of visual effects from wood grains to solid colors. For an even more personalized approach, high-pressure laminates from Lab Design Laminates can be overlaid onto the core substrate before carving, revealing the natural color of the core material through the carved pattern.
